Their website explains exactly what DASH stands for: Determination, Attitude, Strength and Heart.  DASH Fitness Studios came to fruition by the hard work of Lacey Bruschske and Erin Wathen.  DASH is a studio entirely devoted to group fitness.  This gym is perfect for people who find greater motivation in group settings and incur the benefits of an instructor encouraging them for the entire workout.

I first became acquainted with DASH Fitness Studios when I was invited to attend the launch of a new fitness workout being introduced called Zumba.  Taught by Emily Green, this class was one of the most fun workouts I have had in a long time.  The entire class involves high-paced, upbeat, Latin music, and it’s all about shakin’ it.  My heart rate was up the entire time.  The class involves relatively easy dance moves repeatedly performed throughout each dance track.  The teacher was very encouraging and positive.  One of the things which I loved was how they would dim the lights for different music tracks to change up the ambiance.  Probably my favorite thing, which loved, was how much fun everybody was having.  Many people may be initially intimidated to attend a class like this, knowing it is based primarily around easy dance choreography, but every person there–regardless of their skills–was lowering their inhibitions and not worrying about what they looked like next to the person standing next to them.  It was more like going to a Latin club and dancing with your friends, all while getting a great work out.  After that class I knew Dash Fitness Studios would be a great candidate for “Dear Diary.”  The foyer of the studio is decorated in young modern colors and furniture and the actual workout space is wide open, with clear views of the instructors from all angles.  I look forward to my adventure with DASH Fitness Studios.

Jesse.  Week 3.  Dear Diary…

Again I attended Body Pump with April & Angela.  I must add how I love that April is always so upbeat and always has a smile on her face.  One of the main things I noticed at this class, in the midst of straining through a tough bicep track, was when April said, “We are all in this together, push through it.”  That is exactly why many people find motivation, comfort, and results in group fitness.  Teachers that truly inspire, that know how each person can improve, and push them to reach their goals, is what keeps DASH Fitness Studio members returning.

One of the great programs DASH offers is the “Obsidian Challenge.”  If other fitness facilities in the Salt Lake area offer such a great workout, I am unaware of it.  It consists of a 12 week challenge that includes 1 or 2 days of the week taking an Obsidian class, along with any other fitness class the person would like to participate in.  You are required to e-mail your food journal to an assigned trainer and weigh in once a week to track your progress.  The required entrance fee is $25 (which does not include the cost per class) and the person with the highest weight loss receives a grand prize along with the pool of money from each person’s entrance fee.  For anybody considering a serious change to their health, this is the best jump-start I can find.   I would consider this a pretty amazing deal considering you are receiving service similar to that of a personal trainer.  Although Obsidian does include a unique slide-ee black board to give the workout a twist, it is essentially a high impact, full-body workout.  I believe Lacey and Erin have fashioned an exciting, effective fitness regimen, all while implementing the creativity brought in by the Obsidian board.

Also, if you are the type of person who doesn’t enjoy the presence of other people around you when you work out, another fitness alternative DASH offers is personal training.  Whether you are adverse to group fitness or would prefer a more personalized fitness program, personal training is obviously a great way to get in shape.  Each of DASH’s personal trainers are properly certified to teach the material that they do.  If personal training has always sounded too expensive, DASH also offers semi-private and group training for up to 8 people.
